Mark Powell

This is an artist I have only just discovered. Mark Powell collects old, vintage envelopes and uses them as a surface to draw on. What attracted me was the quality of his portraits as I have a passion for drawing people.What's even more amazing is that he only uses a biro pen to create them. I think his work is fantastic and the fact that he uses envelopes to draw them on gives it a completely new style. It keeps the work different and interesting whilst being skillful and detailed. Looking at his work inspires me to draw a face.

Mizaage Collections

My friend's aunt's dress making shop in Oldham, Manchester. I got to go in the back of the shop and see the  the machines and materials. I chose to capture the visit as I found it interesting how the environment differed to what I am used to working in.  Also, it was nice to see old machines that still work perfectly well.

The shop makes, alters and sells fabric for Pakistani fashion.

These are the main artists who I love and inspire me. Some of them are an influence on my own work and some of them I just love to look at.

'The Kiss' (1907-1908) Is my favourite piece of artwork. I think it's beautiful. The colours are so vibrant without being too overpowering. The intricate floral detail enhances the pose of the couple while the block rectangles give a slightly abstract feel. I love the whole composition of this painting as it holds so much emotion.

Speed drawing of Johnny Depp in brush stroke technique. I came across this artist while on youtube searching for drawing tips. Obviously I was instantly drawn to the video as the portrait seemed so realistic and accurate. I always feel so inspired when I look at Kazarin's work as drawing portraits is one of my favourite ways of working.
